Misery, despair, tragedy and woe

*sigh*

My novel has hit a brick wall. It doesn't help that I've been feeling sick. Run down, mostly. I've been having a very difficult time sleeping. Yesterday I didn't come in to work and I slept for most of the afternoon. I felt better, but the fatigue soon returned.

So I'm several thousand words behind where I'm supposed to be (presuming, of course, I distribute my words equally over 30 days); thus, I'm not posting my word count - let's just say I'm embarrassed. However, (and I'm proud of this) I have no abandoned it entirely and I've done some writing everyday. The NaNoWriMo site discusses how Week 2 always sucks and causes a slump. Chris Baty (creator of NaNoWriMo) calls it "the Week of Pain," when the novelty wears off. Apparently, you just have to push through it. If you get through Week 2, they say it gets better.

I think part of the problem is that Week 1 went so well. I was inspired and the words seemed just flow.

Let's hope.

Blarg.

What's worse is last week was wonderful for my mood. My mood was noticeably improved. There is a correlation between my writing and my outlook on life. Thus, I'm pessimistic and cranky now.

Grrrrrrrr

I don't know if you're having trouble with plot, but if so, here's the advice I always turn to:

"When in doubt, have a man come through the door with a gun in his hand."

I actually think (and I got your YA errata so perhaps you can relate) is that there is some knowledge I at least think I need but don't have (some historical accuracy stuff). Maybe it doesn't matter and I just to plow through and fix it later. Perhaps I'm just using it as an excuse to admit I'm not sure where I'm going.

In happier news, I've got some words down this afternoon. Not caught up yet, but definitely getting better.
