Between the World and MeBetween the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A powerful, thoughtful memoir about being of color in the contemporary United States. Coates writes this essay as a letter to his 15-year-old son who is coming of age in the era of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and numerous other killings of African Americans. This violence, Coates shows, has been a constant in American history since slavery. Thoughtful and personal, this is a vital book for people interested in the racial dynamics of this country today. Highly recommended.
