The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1)The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Cormoran Strike's life is a mess - he lost a leg in Afghanistan, his private detective business is incredibly slow, and he and his girlfriend have just split - when he is asked to investigate the death of a supermodel that the police have already concluded was suicide. Cormoran and his temporary secretary Robin are fantastic characters that work well for establishing a series. At this point, everyone knows that the author Robert Galbraith is, in fact, a pseudonym for J. K. Rowling who exhibits her talent for character and mystery as well as strong observations about race and class. Enjoyable though it might have been tightened up some.
