Einstein's DreamsEinstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Einstein, while formulating his theory of relativity, dreams about time. He imagines how the world would be different if time were different. Each chapter is one of these dreams of a different world, interspersed with occasional interludes of Einstein's life as he works at a patent office and has conversations with a close friend. It's a beautifully written and realized little book (I read it in one sitting) that will challenge and provoke the reader to think about time and what it means. Smart without being didactic, simply written without being simple, thoughtful and provocative without being preachy, this book is highly recommended.
