The Beginner's GoodbyeThe Beginner's Goodbye by Anne Tyler

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book felt really unfinished, making the ending that much more unsatisfying. The plot is simple enough: When Aaron's wife suddenly dies, he has a difficult time adjusting and soon starts seeing and conversing with her in various places. While there was potential here, it felt really skimpy, without any payoff. The characters are largely unlikeable and much of the book - especially the ending - feels rushed and skeletal. Tyler is a good writer (that still comes through), but this book does not do justice to her skills.
