In praise of introverts

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop TalkingQuiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

As an introvert, I appreciate the rah-rah attitude of this book and its strong message that, in our culture that is so heavily focused on being outgoing and communicative, being an introvert is not something to be ashamed of, but in fact something to take pride in, especially since we make up one-third to one-half of the population. Citing a lot of social science research, the author shows that introverts tend to be more thoughtful and conscientious. Often, though, I felt that her definition of what an introvert is was incredibly fluid, so she could survey a large variety of research that doesn't necessarily deal with introversion as much as sensitivity and other factors. Still, it is worth reading and considering, especially if you're an introvert or the significant other of one.
