This weekend was both the Americana Music Festival and the Southern Festival of Books, two Nashville traditions I love partaking of. In the past, though, they have not been on the same weekend. Americana used to be held in September; I don't know the reason for the move.
I won't describe all the awesome sights and sounds. You can follow the links to see the lineup for Americana - I pretty much camped out at the Cannery, though the Mercy Lounge is just upstairs from that and I saw some things up there, too. Saw some great music that I've appreciated for awhile, but never had the opportunity to see live - the Jayhawks, James McMurtry, Blind Boys of Alabama. Some new artists that I appreciate - Carrie Rodriguez, Tim Easton, Matrimony, Deadman. And, of course, some old favorites who I've seen before and look forward to every time - Buddy Miller, Bobby Keys, Jim Lauderdale.
So it was late nights of great music and days of hearing authors read and talk about that walk. In some ways, I guess it was my vision of Heaven. One of the highlights of the Southern Festival of Books was

A full weekend, which coming off the Cancun trip (which I still need to write about here), was good times. Now I just need to get back into the groove (or whatever it is) of work.
