A much-needed vacation

And they're gone...

Friday was the last day of exams. The library today is quiet as a tomb, which I like. May is wonderful in this way. It gets old after a while, but the first few weeks of the deserted library are relaxing after the chaos of another academic year.

This year has been a bit hectic and, as a result, I took most of last week as vacation (I came in Friday to deal with some end-of-the-semester stuff, to watch the beast die). rosepurr had to work in Chattanooga, so I took advantage of a paid-for hotel and spent time running, reading, relaxing. I'd only been through Chattanooga before. I'd never spent anytime there.

I spent a lot of time sitting in Greyfriar's, drinking coffee and writing. (My review: The service isn't great, but the coffee's fantastic.) I toured the Hunter Museum of American Art, which has an impressive collection for its relatively small size. rosepurr and I went to the Tennessee Aquarium and were entertained by otters, sharks, sturgeon, sting rays, and other life forms we don't see often enough.

In short, Chattanooga is a nice city. They've worked very hard on going green, with such amenities as the free electric buses that run through downtown, and the city is clean and pleasant as a result. I did a lot of walking. rosepurr and I ate well. Highlights include the fantastic chunky guacamole at Rio Picante (it was Cinco de Mayo), and the beer and bison burgers at the Terminal Brewhouse.

Then I came back. Sigh. At least it's quiet, although the summer remodeling project won't get into full swing until after graduation (this coming Friday).

I really enjoy Chattanooga as well. We were there with all the snow over Christmas and had a great time. We loved the aquarium and the gorgeous Gorge Explorer boat ride.

Glad you were able to get away for a bit. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

I went to that coffee place when we had races in Chattanooga! It was a short walk from our launch area.
