30 Days of Songs, Day 15

Day 15: A song you liked in high school.

Many of my high school classmates probably thought I was arrogant. I wasn't terribly social, wasn't terribly interested in the things they were. I was smart and not outgoing.

And the simple fact was I didn't care. I had a few friends and the things I was interested in and I felt that someday I would find greatness. There's still some of that in me, I think, though my definition of greatness has changed (for the better). This song, from my senior year of high school, fits that phase of my life perfectly.

The place where I come from is a small town
They think so small, they use small words
But not me, I'm smarter than that,
I worked it out

...

I had it made like a mountain rage with a snow white pillow for my big fat head
And my heaven will be a big heaven,
And I will walk through the front door

The funny thing is, I liked this song in high school too. Not sure exactly why, but Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" swept through my high school. I bought the whole album at a used CD store (that entity will sure date us all), and loved it!

I had never listened to the lyrics to this song before. Appropriate.
