30 Days of Song, Day 10

Day 10: A song that reminds you of your father.

This one's pretty easy, other than picking an individual song. Unlike rosepurr, who made her feelings felt with this entry, my dad is a huge fan of Motown. As a teenager, he tooled around in hot rods when that sound was at its height of popularity. I imagine hot summer evenings with the windows rolled down and the Temptations' sweet harmonies filling the night.

There's so many great Motown songs. I have fond memories of being running errands in the pick-up truck with my dad, tuned to the oldies station. Since I've moved away, he picks me up from the airport in his new shiny pick-up truck, and now the satellite radio is tuned to the Motown station, those rich sounds even richer and fuller in digital clarity. I own Hitsville U.S.A., the Motown CD box set, largely because of those memories, most of that music being made before my parents even met.

Picking one is very hard, but I know Dad has always had a soft spot for Smokey Robinson's smooth vocals. So, one of his best known songs, "Tears of a Clown."

Thanks, Dad.

Until I went back and looked, I did not realize that we picked the same song for our fathers. :)
