30 Days of Songs, Day 6

Day 6: Your favorite band.

I thought this one would be hard, but the answer quickly became obvious. This video is one of their best known songs, as performed in their 70's heyday. (It's unfortunate that the video ends just as they're really starting to break loose into another song, but the video

Last year at the Americana Awards, a posthumous tribute was held for the band's leader and primary songwriter Lowell George. An all-star band got up and jammed on this classic.

I discovered Little Feat through my roommate in college. The band had just reunited after about a decade or so and were touring. He was (and as far as I know is) a huge fan and asked if I wanted to go to the show, and I said sure, knowing nothing about the band.

In the 70's, they were the jam band that tied people over until the Dead came back through (those who didn't just follow the Dead around anyway). They turn a mix of blues, Southern rock, country, and R&B into a stew that just lets them jam the night away. Here's their Wikipedia entry, by the way.

While I love Little Feat on record, they are truly a live band and must be seen in person. Most of them work as highly sought after session musicians when they're not touring. They are truly musicians' musicians, whose influence extends well beyond their fame. They are extremely talented and love playing with one another.

Sadly, Ritchie Hayward, the band's drummer, recently succumbed to liver cancer. :( He will be missed, but the band will continue without him.

If you want to see great musicians having a great time, seek them out when they come to your town.
