D.C.

I have not posted about rosepurr's and my fabulous trip to D.C. over the holiday weekend. In truth, I can't believe it's Friday already. This week has felt long and yet it has felt like it has slipped through my fingers like sand.

We took Friday off and flew out. We had a fabulous hotel. We ate fabulous food. We saw some sights:

The Spy Museum - a disappointment for us - a bit too kid-friendly
The Corcoran Gallery, which was a fabulous discovery near the White House, which I finally saw from a distance,
The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, which is currently exhibiting the Hope Diamond,
The Smithsonian Museum of American History, where my pop-culture heart skipped a couple of beats at Archie Bunker's chair and Fonzie's leather jacket and the curtain dress Carol Burnett wore in the classic "Gone with the Wind" spoof from her old TV show, complete with the rod still across the shoulders.

A friend told me about a wonderful used bookstore, Second Story Books, where I spent too much money. (I couldn't resist a signed 1st edition of a book of Jim Harrison's poetry.)

We walked a lot. Our legs, feet, and hips hurt by the actual holiday. D.C. is so full of sights that, every time I go, I feel like I'm lucky to get a few scratched off the list.

The best part, though, was seeing old friends, such as cheerybeggar and madisonrose(the others are LJ-less). We have a lot of friends in that part of the world, and we never get to see them all, but we're grateful for those we got to spend time with.

In short, a great time.
