In Search of Small Gods In Search of Small Gods by Jim Harrison

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a book to savor. I received this as a Christmas present and have been reading a poem or two at a time. These poems are like splashes of ice cold water in the face.

Brilliant, brutal, and beautiful.

Highest recommendation.

Off to the Side: A Memoir Off to the Side: A Memoir by Jim Harrison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This memoir took me a long time to get through, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I really wasn't that interested in his years in Hollywood as a scriptwriter. So I had read the majority of the book and then set it aside at that section (which is the final few chapters).

Those chapters aside (which felt like a lot of name-dropping and otherwise uninteresting complaining about the structure of Hollywood and how writers get no respect - where have I heard that before?), I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love Harrison's writing and there are moments that are heartbreaking and moments that are laugh-out-loud hysterical. Harrison has a warm and wonderful attitude toward life that everyone could learn from. Recommended.
