Welcome to the Hotel California

I've been bad about posting. Too busy living and working, I suppose.

Our trip to Palm Springs (Has it already been more than 2 weeks since we got back?) was a life-affirming, soul-fulfilling pleasure on a par with Biblical revelation. Okay, hyperbole aside, it was a fantastic and much-needed vacation. rosepurr and I visited Joshua Tree. Gorgeous. Much of the desert was gorgeous. It made me want to sit in the sun and ruminate while reading Ed Abbey.

I would say Joshua Tree was a highlight, but the entire trip was composed of highlights. Our jaunt into Burbank to pick up alstaria and tour NBC, thanks to yrosalita. A fantastic dinner at the Water Grill in downtown LA, my birthday gift to rosepurr. From there, it was on to Solvang, the setting of "Sideways" for a day dedicated to wine and decadence. We shipped some back (in a roundabout way). Our wine refrigerator is full and makes our hearts so. [The truth is we drank everyday of our vacation. Not a lot at once usually, but a little bit each day. Good for the soul, I suspect.]

Then some downtime. A bit of shopping, some lounging in and by the pool. More good food - always good food.

It was very hard to return. But we did. The first week back was painful, but I feel like I'm getting back in the swing. If anything, I'm even better for being away.

In about a month, we heard to Portland, Oregon. Technically it's for work (the annual AALL meeting), but rosepurr's coming with me and we're heading out a day early so we can spend time around Portland. Two things are high on my list: Powell's and the Rogue Brewery (who makes one of my favorite beers already and I've never tasted it on tap). Of course, the conference is usually a good time (last year, in New Orleans, West Publishing rented out the entire House of Blues for their party).

The library is closed. Other than the cleaning staff, I'm all alone. The library is dark and here I sit blogging away. But my tummy rumbles and I have errands to do before I get home. So I'm off.
