And with it I feel reborn

"Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems." - Rainer Maria Rilke

I hadn't heard this quote before, but I just across it and it's wonderful. Spring has really arrived here. Sunlight streams through my office window and makes me just want to get out. Yesterday for my lunch hour I took a nice long walk around campus and then stopped in a barbershop, got my hair cut nice and short ("just enough to comb," I told the barber). It's all invigorating.

This burst of spring has come in time to torment the campus. Finals begin next week so the library is full. But, for the most part, it's quiet for me. The space becomes a study hall. Anyone with papers has (we hope) done the research by now. The stress level in the place has sharpened and it makes me want to get out of here and into the sunlight more. I want to go for some long runs and play some frisbee golf. I have commitments, but they are only to time, not tedium.

I've been bad about writing both here and anywhere else. I spent some time Tuesday with friends who also aspire to be writers, and amid low lights we discussed our writing projects. It was inspiring and I did some work yesterday. And now I'm writing here. Go, me!

I could make excuses, but I have none really. I have been a busy social butterfly lately with both family and friends - good times all around - and I'm in need of some down time. I'll get some of that tonight (rosepurr comes back tomorrow) and some over the weekend. My to-read pile has grown exponentially lately and I plan on curling up tonight and maybe some on Saturday.

In a twisted irony, the clean pure fresh air makes me crave a cigar. I smoke maybe 2 a year. Our apartment has a screened-in porch. I may visit it tonight as well. Perhaps a book, a beer and a cigar and sitting out on the porch watching the sun go down. Yay, spring springing!

I thought of you last night....we lit the firepit in the backyard for the first time this year...I thought of taking a picture. It reminded me of the picture we took of the 1st woodstove lighting the year you were away at college. Too funny.

Fire pits are wonderful. Our friends Sarah and Brian have one on their back porch. We make smores out there sometimes.

Hahaha! The lighting of the woodstove picture. That was funny.
