Not a lot to say today. I feel a bit better, especially starting at the clock and seeing that I only have to be here half an hour longer. It's been a Friday morning at the reference desk with a bunch of weird questions.
First a bit of sad news. I just learned that Chris Whitley died. His first album, Living with the Law, is probably one of my all-time favorite records. His tenth record apparently just came out. I admit that he lost me after he went electric on his second, but he was an enormously talented man and this is an enormous loss.
In other, less depressing news, last night, after work, I watched "The Bourne Supremacy." It's really good. The sequel to "The Bourne Identity," it finds Matt Damon playing the assassin Jason Bourne, who suffers amnesia and only gets glimpses of his former life. Spectacular car chases and one gripping fight scene, it's well-paced and fun.
I want to start tracking the movies I watch on here. One of my colleagues has a goal this year of watching 365 new movies; she has a passion for foreign and "artsy" films. I won't make such ambitious goals for movie-watching, and I love movies where "they blow stuff up good," but I've found writing down the books I read to be tremendously satisfying, especially going back and recalling what I read. So I should be doing the same for movies.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I watched "SLC Punk," recommended by
rosepurr and very good. It's a comedy (with some serious moments) about the only two punk rockers in Salt Lake City in 1985. It's really entertaining. I also watched "Madagascar" at the farm. We had it on for the kids, but I watched most of it and was pleasantly surprised that I liked it. It's no great film, but it's a decent entertainment. Of course, it teaches kids that animals actually like being penned up, but that's a rant for another time.
My Netflix account has delivered two films I plan to watch this weekend, both big Hollywood extravanganzas, both remakes, and both that I know my sweetie wouldn't care about (it's hard because we like to watch movies together so we can talk about them) - the new "War of the Worlds," and the new "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." It's supposed to be a cold nasty weekend, and after some errands this afternoon, I don't plan on leaving the apartment.
I'm a grumpy bear that way. With the snow and cold, it feels like time to hibernate.
