Brilliance (Brilliance Saga, #1)Brilliance by Marcus Sakey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An entertaining thriller. Since 1980, about 1% of the population is born gifted, having special skills that often put them at odds with society. One, for instance, sees the patterns of the stock market, taking it for $300 billion, and forcing everyone to rethink the economy. Cooper is an agent with Equitable Services, the government agency that oversees (and sometimes eliminates) the gifted. It is a fast-paced adventure novel with a strong premise, with solid twists. While it does make statements about America's history with civil rights and discrimination, it does not let that get in the way of the story or pace. Sometimes it does read a bit like a movie script. It is the first book of a planned trilogy, the second of which was just released.
