The GoldfinchThe Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Theo Decker is 13 when his mother is killed during a museum visit. Theo is in the museum at the time, in a different room. This moment and a particular piece of art at that museum - The Goldfinch, a 1654 painting by Carel Fabritius - will impact the entirety of Theo's life. Theo travels through various settings and social classes as a result of his often bad choices. It is a beautifully written book, full of meditations on life, art, love, and the choices we make. To say too much about it is to ruin the twists and turns of this lively, emotional, and compulsively readable book.
