My Cousin, My GastroenterologistMy Cousin, My Gastroenterologist by Mark Leyner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A loosely connected collection of short stories that are absurd, funny, and full of pop-culture and historical references. You never know where it's going next, and that's part of the fun. Postmodern in the best sense of the word, it won't appeal to everyone, but for a reader looking for something wildly different, it's worth seeking out.

I know we talked about it already, but I was so blown away by this when it came out. It seems a lifetime ago now, but my reading tastes changed rapidly when I went off the college, and Leyner was revelatory.

It is awesome and I enjoyed it immensely. It's so much fun to read a writer who is clearly having fun but also completely unpredictable.
