The InformationistThe Informationist by Taylor Stevens

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was intrigued by this book, but it turned out to be a real disappointment. The premise shows promise: A Texas oil billionaire hires Vanessa Michael Monroe, a dealer in expensive information, to find his daughter who vanished in Africa four years ago. However, the characters who seemed more like ideas than real people. didn't engage me or keep me interested. I never saw or found anything in the main character that lived up to the hype or promise of the way she's described. She is supposed to be super smart and skilled, and yet she often seems to put herself in harm's way for no real reason and she seems to come into her information, much of which doesn't seem that hard to get, in a haphazard way. Also, the writing at times was clunky and off-putting, seeming like it was written for a movie script.
