Stress soup

It's a week before finals. As a result, the library is stress soup.

It also leaves me with little to do. Students are studying. They are putting the finishing touches on papers, the research long over. They are focused on outlining their classes and committing it all to memory so they can spill it back out over the tests.

I absorb stress like a sponge. It's something I've had to cope with ever since I moved back into academia. Law students are a stressful, high-strung lot, particularly during finals time. With the economy in the tank and the job prospects for law students perhaps the worse they've ever been, the students stress more, believing that every grade point might make the difference in them being hired. So I work hard not to let their stress become my stress. I have to increase the exercise, increase time spent with quality books that take me out of my own head, increase time just staying in my office, avoiding the main sections of the library.

Of course, graduation looms. So Buildings & Grounds is prettying up the place, mowing and trimming and *sigh* leaf blowing. In short, they are using noisy machines outside my window.

Grrrr....

One of the joys of my job is the quiet. I hate it when that's taken away from me.
