Stop tormenting me & that poor groundhog

In the midst of the raging blizzard up north (yes, I'm mocking you - here it's 30 degrees but under a sunny sky), they prodded a poor rodent out of his hibernation at some godawful hour this morning. Allegedly, they did this to predict an early spring, probably to make people in places like Chicago feel better.

But, the article points out "In reality, Pennsylvania's prophetic rodent doesn't see much of anything. The result is actually decided in advance by 14 members of the Inner Circle, who don tuxedos and top hats for the event. So why bother this poor animal? Let me - I mean, it - sleep.

These days, I sympathize with Punxsutawney Phil. I don't want to be bothered, either. Leave me alone until the gray days pass. The alarm goes off to summon me to work and I cuss at it, even when I'm not facing two feet of snow and ice. I recognize that for one day of torment, this groundhog gets extremely well-treated and fed throughout the year. But still . . .
