Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never SeenBorn to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Christopher McDougall hears about the amazing Tarahumara Indians of Mexico and their amazing barefoot feats of endurance, he asks why he can't run 3 miles in state-of-the-art running shoes without his feet hurting. His quest for an answer leads to an amazing adventure, full of incredible characters, and a wealth of information.

Even if you're not interested in running, this book is a great adventure story, an informative biological and anthropological essay, and a motivating, inspirational guide.

The Amazon review summarizes my thoughts perfectly: "Born to Run is that rare book that will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that the secret to happiness is right at your feet, and that you, indeed all of us, were born to run."

I want to mention, too, that I read this book in my car on CD. Fred Sanders, the reader, gives a fantastic performance.

Highly recommended for most readers. Mandatory for anyone interesting in running.
