Mind the Gap

Today, running-wise, is a well-deserved day off. Tomorrow will be the long run of the week - 13 miles. I will try to be up before the sun, before the heat gets completely out of hand.

Days off are harder than running days. There's pent-up energy and stress that needs to be burned off. But my metabolism has gotten so used to running that when I step back to take a breather my body demands calories. And I usually give them to it, more than it truly needs.

So then I feel lethargic going into my long run.

It's also really hard for me to say that doing nothing is just as important as doing something. My muscles need to rest and recover.

I am, in fact, doing something by not doing anything. That contradiction is always hard to accept.

I agree, scheduled days off can be hard when you're in a habit. I always feel more sore on days off too.
