You always were my favorite

When I travel, one of the things I look for is bookstores. For example, when rosepurr and I were in D.C. recently, I dragged her to Second Story Books, where I spent too much money (but the signed first edition of Jim Harrison poetry was too strong to resist).

We love books in our own way.

rosepurr prefers to buy books when she needs them. She treats them like sustenance, like a trip to the grocery. She cannot have too many unread books around or she's overwhelmed, like a chef forced to prepare a gala meal on Iron Chef where the secret ingredient is everything in season.

I, on the other hand, am a glutton and an addict. One day, my to-read pile will crush me an ant under a boot. I buy books because they're there. I buy books because they make me happy. I buy books because I can't be sure I don't already own them. I buy books I know I already own because this used copy is cheap and I just happen to know someone who'd like it. Or I might meet them someday.

Our home library is an assortment of spines, old favorites cracked and falling apart, new soon-to-be-loves with binding that creaks when you just look at it.

So, while it's not library porn, I feel the need to share this bookstore porn, gathered from around the world. My credit cards stand at the ready. I think my personal favorite is the one from Portugal. :)

I must go to all of them! And drat, I was in London just a few weeks ago and looking for a bookstore. If only I had known about Hatchards then!

I am an addict as well, and proud of it :)

YAY! There is something about them that ereaders will never reproduce.

Indeed. And I've never truly gotten the hang of audiobooks, either.

I do audiobooks, but mostly in the car, though I know many people who use them at home, too.

To each his own. I'm not against ereaders. I just think there's something about physical books that can't be replicated.
