Graduation

Tomorrow is graduation. Congratulations to all the graduates! Good luck getting a job in this economy.

Okay, that was harsh. Graduation is a strange time from my point of view as a librarian. This is probably the first class since I've been here in which I've gotten to know any of the students in any depth. I've been here three years now, and this is the first group that came in after I arrived.

Students bring their parents and grandparents around to celebrate their accomplishment, which is nice. Unfortunately, the parents and grandparents are old, slow, don't know where they're going, and always in my way. Grrr.

Tomorrow, parking will be a nightmare, but I'll find a spot. Then I will disappear into my office. Some parents & grandparents may want to see the library, the place where many of them actually probably spent more time than at home. They just walk around, whispering too loudly and smiling too proudly. They don't come back to the offices.

Fortunately the ceremony is in the late morning. By the afternoon, everyone will disperse and the campus is like a ghost town.

I can't wait.
